I Will Follow You IntoThe Dark by Jonny Green

Jonny Green’s paintings are precise renderings of very imprecise, rather expressionistic sculptures that live somewhere between still life and portraiture. Previously working in a quick and intuitive ‘stream of conscious’ manner, Green shifted his practice towards a more labour-intensive journey of building sculptural objects, photographing them and then painting these images in a pseudo-documentary style. By doing so, Green embarks on a transformative process that manipulates and elevates small discarded objects into sculptural combines that adopt a monumentality and hint at anthromorphic personality. Through a process of excavation and metamorphosis, Green’s ambigious characters acquire an othernss that is at once flawed, abject, non-specific, unromanticised and mesmerising. Jonny Green graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Masters degree in Fine Art (painting).
