Vasilis Avramidis’ oil paintings explore the uncanny, fluid relationship between human architecture, historical memory, and the unstoppable forces of nature. Constructing what he defines as "impossible landscapes," his meticulously rendered compositions center on environments that feel deeply charged with a sense of anticipation and heavy, eerie emptiness.Avramidis seamlessly weaves 17th-century classical still-life and portrait aesthetics with mid-century architectural references, treating the canvas as a site where disparate timelines compress into an ambiguous, non-linear reality.

At the core of his work is a fascination with the permanence and language of painting itself. Sourcing inspiration from classical museum works alongside personal site memories, his paintings subvert traditional hierarchies. Domestication and wild terrains collapse into one another as architectural fragments—such as 1970s resorts, concrete facades, and structural ruins—appear to be engulfed, reclaimed, or birthed directly from a dense, suffocating moss and topsoil. Human presence is entirely absent, yet heavily implied by the geometric scaffolding left behind. Through brooding tones and complex textural rendering, Avramidis captures temporary pauses out of sync with the modern world, translating architectural decay into spaces of contemplative, surreal survival.
