Beth Rodway

Let Me Show You What I Mean

Have you ever longed to sit inside a painting? Beth Rodway’s new body of work, exhibited so strikingly in her brand new, online solo exhibition, ‘Let me show you what I mean’ at Wilder Gallery, London, is equal parts detail and dream. Rodway’s works have consistently focussed on telling stories. The artist creates sets for the imagination - designed spaces and homes for us to fill. Her background in architecture provides an immensely beautiful perspective. They are structurally sound, yet unexpected and elusive. The influence of her recent three-month residency in Los Angeles is clear. Rodway realises pink palm tree-filled skies of LA, replacing the pale grey skies of London. Indeed, many of these homes depicted can be found in Los Angeles. A drastic step from Rodway’s iconic monochrome blue, these works bustle with buttery pastels, pinks and purples. Unmistakably modern interiors are rendered both fanciful and impeccably designed. Beth Rodway enjoys playing with juxtapositions: the disparity between the architectural and the human-made is referenced with the untamed nature inside and out. The supple, curved lines contrasted with the modernist lines of the architecture. Giant panes of glass are framed with bold, climbing plants, and wild trees penetrate the skies. Paintings here are remembered and imagined. Through this brand new body of work, we are blessed to view the world from Rodway’s unique play on perspective.

Beth Rodway is an award winning, Brighton based artist. She has exhibited globally, including at the Royal Academy and Christie’s, London and more recently with Delphian Gallery, Daniel Raphael Gallery and Purslane. She was the recipient of The ACS Drawing Prize and was recently awarded a 3 month residency in Los Angeles. Rodway’s works are held in The Royal Collection, Soho House Collection, and many more.
