LARYSA MYERS
Based in Beacon, New York
Larysa Myers lives and works in Beacon, New York. She studied drawing and painting at the Grand Central Academy and textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where she developed a lasting love of classical drawing methods and pattern making.
Her paintings and drawings explore personal history through the universal and the cyclical, the mythological and the contemporary, often reflecting on ideals of motherhood and femininity and their dualities. The female figure is pared back to an archetype, silhouetted and reshaped, within settings that move between the domestic and the wild, the everyday and the fantastical. Working from imagination, memory, symbol and nature, Myers builds her surfaces through repeated pattern and line, a process she describes as leading her to a slower, more reflective state.
