SOPHIE SMORCZEWSKI
Based in London
Sophie Smorczewski is a painter living and working in London. She completed a BA at Manchester School of Art in 2021, receiving the Manchester Academy of Fine Art Prize, and an MFA in Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, where she was awarded the Cass Art Painting Award.
Her paintings grow from close observation of gardens and landscapes, holding brief, intimate moments shaped by memory and change. Gardens arrive in full bloom yet carry a quiet sense that the moment is already slipping away. Working in oil on canvas and on paper, she makes pigments from organic materials that continue to alter over time, so each painting keeps changing long after it leaves the studio.
