Jonny Green
b. 1966, North Yorkshire. Lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne
Jonny Green’s paintings are precise renderings of loose, expressionistic sculptures that sit somewhere between still life and portraiture. Moving away from a quick, intuitive way of working, Green now builds sculptural objects from small discarded things, photographs them, and paints the images in a quietly documentary style.
Through this process the objects take on a monumental presence and a hint of personality: ambiguous characters that are flawed, unromanticised and strangely mesmerising.
